GRBs as Cosmological Probes

Summary

Review of gamma-ray bursts as cosmological probes: finding bursts beyond redshift 6, host absorption as a window on the neutral intergalactic medium and reionization, dust and extinction curves, and bursts as signposts to the first stars, with a caution against GRB Hubble-diagram cosmography.

In the second week of the two-week Cefalù conference (Sicily, September 7–19, 2008), on supernovae, GRBs and novae, whose scientific organizing committee he served on (the conference page is linked above). The programs were never archived, so the date comes from the slides’ title page.
